Well, brown-bagging has gotten a lot more expensive nowadays, because these aren't just any brown paper and grocery bags--- they are made of leather.
Jill Sander's Vasari Purse (pictured below) has broken rules, tipped the scale and stepped over the boundary of unassumingly luxurious accessories. Priced at $290, this bag is exponentially more expensive than any sandwich and snack one might pack in it.
It features a long rectangular silhouette and is crafted from coated paper, visible brown stitched seams at each side, two gold coloured metal eyelets and the words ‘Jill Sander’ are printed in black at the bottom, according to NY Daily News. And, it also comes in black, which is $360. Reviewing a black leather version of the bag ($360), W Magazine said the Vasari is “'perfectly in sync with the fashion house’s minimalist roots. Forget recycling—this bag is a keeper,'” according to NY Daily News.
This bag was first seen in the hands of male models on the runways earlier this year (pictured below), but it recently hit stores. According to the designer’s website, the bag is already sold out.
Los Angeles-based brand, Stampd, has also released a "brown paper bag" called the Bodega Bag (pictured below). It is modeled with a 40oz beverage. According to Fashion & Style, this luxurious leather paper bag is made from American cowhide and is available in both medium and small. The Bodega Bag comes in limited supply, with 50 pieces for each size. They were released on Wednesday, October 3.
Maison Martin Margiela is also contributing to this homeless-chic trend with its Leather Paper Bag (pictured below). Tis bag, resembling a grocery tote, is bigger than the previous two and has handles. It is also the most expensive, costing $763.
"The next time you toss away a brown paper bag you get from your local corner store, you may want to think twice ---you could be throwing away fashion's latest accessory," wrote Kadia Blagrove of Fashion & Style.
